Lake Ann Guide
Lake Ann is a small resort town situated in Benzie County, Michigan. Sleeping Bear Resort is located just 2 miles from downtown Lake Ann. It’s located just 12 miles west of Traverse City and 12 miles east of Sleeping Bear Dunes. Lake Ann is a beautiful, year-round resort community. The village is quiet and peaceful, yet close to the shopping, culture, sandy beaches, hiking and much more. Restaurants and Dining Options
The Stone Oven
Located 3 minutes away in the Village of Lake Ann. This is a local favorite small family restaurant that serves excellent lunches, dinners and pizza. The Stone Oven does a large volume of take out meals and it’s a great place to pre-order your lunches or dinners for pick-up. You can bring your meal back to Sleeping Bear Resort or you can find an outdoor table next door at Lake Ann Brewing Company. Check out their Facebook page for daily specials and their full menu. The Stone Oven is open 11am to 9pm Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday and Sunday. They’re open 11am to 10pm Friday and Saturday and closed on Mondays. Their phone number is 231-275-8520.
Lake Ann Brewing
Located 3 minutes away in the Village of Lake Ann. LABC is located next door to the Stone Oven. Your food can be ordered at the Stone Oven and you’ll be buzzed when it’s ready. You can eat your dinner and have one of Lake Ann Brewing’s beers at one of their picnic tables behind the brewery. Lake Ann Brewing offers 6 of their beers on tap plus local hard cider, local sodas, local wines and local meads. They have live music every Tuesday during the non-summer months and live music Tuesday thru Saturday all summer long. The Corner Cone is located downtown Lake Ann next to Lake Ann Brewing. It’s a small walk-up window front food vendor that offers soft serve, cones, sundaes, shakes, floats, coolers, malts, Stand-Ups, hotdogs, chips, drinks, water, frozen lemonade, smoothies and more. Red Door Coffee Shop
Located 3 minutes away in the Village of Lake Ann. This local favorite coffee shop serves specialty coffee, breakfast sandwiches and panini’s. They’re closed on Wednesdays and Sundays. They open at 7am on Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Friday and 8am on Saturdays. Click here for the Red Door’s menu.
Located less than 5 minutes from SBR and is best known for it’s pizza but also has burgers, subs, ribs and wings. They also serve hand dipped Moomers Ice Cream. No alcoholic beverages. Papa J’s will deliver to the resort (231-275-7007). Click here for their menu.
Sunset Grill at Mistwood
Located less than 5 minutes from SBR and has a full service restaurant and dining room. They have a beautiful deck with seating overlooking the golf course during summer months. Their hours are seasonal and inconsistent so it’s best to call them at 231-275-5500.
Our Favorite Breakfast Spots
Located 8 miles north of Sleeping Bear Resort in Maple City is one of our favorite breakfast spots! Pegtown also makes great sandwiches and homemade pizzas. They open at 8am Tuesday thru Sunday and are closed on Mondays.
Dilbert’s is located 9 miles from Sleeping Bear Resort and serves up a great breakfast! If you’re really hungry, try their border burrito. It’s our favorite. Dilbert’s also serves lunch and dinner. No alcoholic beverages are served. Take Lake Ann Road south to US31. Head east toward Interlochen about 1.7 miles. It’s on the south side of the road and easy to miss.
Lake Ann Grocery
Located 3 minutes away in the Village of Lake Ann. LA Grocery is a must stop for guests at the resort. They carry basic grocery items including a great beer selection. They also have hardware items, fishing supplies and any of those items you forgot at home. Lake Ann Grocery’s motto is “if we don’t have it, you don’t need it”. They’re open 6am to 10pm 7 days a week. John and Sandy, the owners of Lake Ann Grocery, are asking all customers to wear face masks before entering the store. It’s a small store with narrow aisles. They also encourage you to call first to see if they have the item(s) you’re looking for. We’ve heard they are willing to do a curbside pick-up as well. Their phone number is (231) 275-6479
Gabe’s Meat Market
Located 3 miles north of SBR at the corner of Reynolds Road and M72. Gabe’s has smoked meats and fish, a large selection of jerky and cheeses, Moomers hand dipped ice cream, beer and wine. They’re hours are 8am to 7pm Monday thru Saturday. On Sunday they’re open 9am to 6pm. Call ahead for large orders 231-228-7928.
Parks & Beaches
Almira Township Park
The Almira Township Park has 2 Tennis Courts, Beach Volleyball, baseball diamonds, 1 mile blacktop walking path through the woods, soccer fields, basketball court, swings and play structures and covered pavilion with barbeque grills. During the winter months, there’s a lit ice skating pond. It’s located 2 miles from the resort. Click here for directions.
Lake Ann Pathway
Lake Ann Pathway is a network of four scenic loops. The shortest 1.3 mile loop is a popular hiking and snow shoeing trail. The longer 5.8-mile trail is most popular for advanced cross-country skiers. It’s hilly. The trail follows the Lake Ann lakeshore for a while and also the Platte River. Lake Ann Pathway is 2.5 miles from Sleeping Bear Resort. Click here for directions.
Ransom Lake Trail
Ransom Lake is part of the Grand Traverse Regional Land Conservancy. The trail circles the lake which is heavily wooded. It’s approximately a 45 minute to 1 hour hike. Ransom Lake Trail access is 3 miles from Sleeping Bear Resort. Click here for more information.
