Our Northern Michigan Winter Aventure Recommendations
Winter in Northern Michigan is nothing short of magical, and Sleeping Bear Resort is the perfect home base for your seasonal adventures. Whether you’re looking for an outdoor thrill or a relaxing indoor experience, there’s something for everyone within a short drive of our resort, located in the beautiful village of Lake Ann. Here are some of our top winter adventure recommendations, all within 30 minutes of Sleeping Bear Resort.
Snowmobiling Adventures in Benzie
Explore the well-maintained snowmobile trails near SBR, where breathtaking winter scenery meets high-speed adventure. These state-designated trails are open from December 1 to March 31, with grooming as conditions allow, ensuring a smooth and thrilling ride through the snowy landscape. We recommend looking at trails in Benzie County, as there are several state-designated trails in the area that are very close to the resort. Explore Michigan’s vast network of snowmobile trails on the DNR website.
Snowshoeing at Sleeping Bear Dunes
If you love hiking, snowshoeing at Sleeping Bear Dunes is an unforgettable winter alternative. Snowshoeing is a fantastic way to explore the park—it’s easy to learn, a great workout, and suitable for all ages. The park transforms into a breathtaking snow-covered landscape, offering peaceful trails and panoramic views of Lake Michigan. Snowshoeing is allowed across the dunes, fields, and forests, but for the best experience, it’s recommended to stick to well-marked trails. If you find yourself on a cross-country ski path, just make sure to stay to the side to preserve skiers’ tracks. Plus, if you don’t have any snowshoes, don’t worry—no snowshoes, no problem! We have 25 pairs available for guests to use!
Sledding at the Dune ClimbNot into hiking but still want to enjoy the beauty of the dunes during the off season? Grab your sled and head to the famous Dune Climb. When covered in snow, this designated sledding area offers an exciting ride down the sandy slopes turned snowy hills. Bring your favorite sled, toboggan, saucer, or inflatable tube and enjoy a day of winter fun.
While sledding is restricted to the designated area, snow-covered dunes throughout the park provide a stunning backdrop for an unforgettable winter day, perfect for kids.
Sip and Savor at Rove WineryIf you are interested in a more leisurely activity, we recommend a trip to visit our friends over a Rove Winery. Located just outside of Traverse City, Rove offers an intimate wine-tasting experience with breathtaking snowy vineyard views. Savor handcrafted wines, ciders, and specialty drinks while warming up by the fire. Don’t forget to grab a bottle to take back to the resort!
Special Offer: If you book a stay at Sleeping Bear Resort for Valentine’s Day weekend, you will receive a voucher for a free wine tasting!
