Project Description

Cottonwood Trail

The Cottonwood Trail is a 1.4 mile loop located along the Pierce Stocking Scenic Drive. It’s one of the 13 hiking trails located within the Sleeping Bear Dunes National Lakeshore. Much of the hike is through loose sand and there are smaller hills that you’ll be climbing. We consider it a moderately difficult hike. Plan on an hour or hour-and-a-half to hike the entire trail. There are great views overlooking the Glen Lakes and the Dune Climb.

To get there, take the Pierce Stocking Scenic Drive. There are several stopping points along the scenic drive and the Cottonwood Trail is located just past the picnic area. Bring a picnic lunch for after the hike. There’s a parking lot adjacent to the entrance to the trail.
