The Alligator Hill Trail is one of the 13 mainland trails located within the Sleeping Bear Dunes National Lakeshore. The Manitou Islands Lookout is a 1.4 mile hike on a mostly gradual incline. It’s another 0.8 miles to the Big Glen Lake Lookout. There’s a total of 9 miles of hiking trails that make up two loops and the hike out to the Big Glen Lookout. This trail was hit hard by the August 2015 storm which brought 100 straight line winds. You can still see swaths of huge trees that were blown to the ground during the storm. Visit the National Park Service website for more history about the trail.
After your hike you can visit the historic Village of Glen Haven or Glen Arbor.
